The Consumer Federation of America charged Monday that the nation's poorest drivers are being charged unfairly high auto insurance premiums because of discriminatory practices and the organization called on state insurance regulators to do something about it.

The Shafia family members convicted Sunday of four counts of first-degree murder have made no request for compensation from the Quebec auto insurance board for the four relatives found dead in a car in an Ontario canal — and such a request would be denied, a board spokesperson said Monday.
