From the supplier: Consumers in Zavala County, TX, are suing Allstate Insurance Co. and Texas Farmers Insurance Co. for price gouging. However, Allstate blames Texas insurance department rating methods for the charges. An attorney for the plaintiffs said that the state insurance department’s policy unequivocally states that premiums for semiannual policies calculated from annual premiums should be rounded once, not twice as the companies’ allege. The double-rounding allegedly led to $100 million in excess fees over 10 years by the companies.
